Birthdays are just snapshots in their race towards Birthdays are just snapshots in their race towards flight. Stolen moments where we savor this stage of life, this passion, curiosity, dream, and delight. Yesterday, I carried him on my hip, today he’s looking into my eyes. It’s hard to catch your breathe to pour into them the recipe for wisdom, hope, integrity, perseverance, and kindness.

This stage has me all outta sorts. It’s amazing to see them walk tall, find their stride, and yet it’s so humbling. My son is officially in the in-between place of child hood and the rest of life. He’s not a baby but he’s still not a teen. He needs a firm hand and a tender hug. The scary part is the world starts to see your baby as a young man, completely separate from you, a being, or a threat in his own right. Yet to me, he will always be my baby. #lordhavemercy #aprayerformyson

This week we celebrated my daughter’s birthday. I have to admit I loved it, and felt like someone knocked the wind out of me.

How is it possible that life happened this fast? Just yesterday we were making laser beams out of streamers across the hallway, and literally the next moment she’s learning to drive, my car?

It’s moving to watch her become a woman of grace, tenacity, and heart. It’s also terrifying to herd these baby adults onto the threshold of life. They soar through a world I can barely keep pace with - then they bend and flex with compassion. I’m not sure how she turned out this kind and responsible but I’m grateful for every moment, the tough ones as well as the sweet. #lifeneedsmoreofthesemoments
